With the blowing of the seventh trumpet, God’s people were to study the book of Daniel more carefully and proclaim the Judgment Hour Message. After carefully studying the sacrifice of Jesus and His High Priestly ministry in the Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary, they were to proclaim that Jesus was the measuring “Rod of God” measuring those who claimed to believe.
Now the Revelator describes what happened to the Two Witnesses during the years before Jesus moved into the Most Holy Place. Who are these Two Witnesses? They symbolize the Old and New Testaments. The two olive trees mentioned by John supply the energizing oil of the Holy Spirit. And the two Lampstands before God show their connection with the Heavenly Sanctuary.
The Two Witnesses stand before the Lord of the Universe and have power to overcome the falsehoods and false teachings of those who hate God. They also have power to open the windows of heaven in response to obedience and shut the blessings for the disobedient. They hold the power of God, the truth and life in the pages of His Word. The Two Witnesses have the power to use whatever means to make a final attempt to call men back to the true worship of God. For a period of time they lie dead in the streets symbolizing what happened in France with the deification of reason and illicit behavior which held sway over the people. But the Two Witnesses were resurrected after a time by the power of the Holy Spirit to once again proclaim the truth of God. Then the Scriptures quickly spread around the world during the Great Awakening of 1798-1840. The seventh trumpet or the third woe comes after the Great Awakening and signifies a period of time until the Close of Probation. This trumpet sounds the warning to the world that the “hour of His judgment is come” (Rev. 14:7).
It is clear that Islam had a role to play back in the 5th and 6th trumpets (1st and 2nd woes). Does this mean that Islam will play a role in the 7th trumpet (3rd woe)? We don’t know. But Daniel 11 shows how close we are to the time when the angels will cease holding the strong winds and let them blow. Jesus will take off His Priestly robes and put on His Kingly robes and the kingdoms of this world will become His kingdoms. The nations are angry, the seven last plagues will fall, the righteous will be rewarded and wicked will be judged.
As the curtain of the Most Holy Place in Heaven is drawn back, John sees the Ark containing the Ten Commandments. Keeping God’ law is important. Jesus is coming! Are you ready to tell the world that He is about to begin His reign of the kingdoms of this world?
