Psalm 98 is an invitation to praise God.

Every nation is called to worship Him as sovereign of the Universe.

It is divided in three parts.

  1. Reasons to praise
  2. Ways of worshipping
  3. Invitation to praise

The main reason for praising God is that He is victorious and maker of wonderful things.

His arm is strong enough to free those who struggle against the enemy, and to give the victory to those who seek for refuge in Him.

Through Christ, God shows His saving justice before the complete Universe.

Singing is one of the ways to praise God’s name. Singing to the Lord is a celebration of appreciation and recognition. The union of songs and some instruments such as harps and trumpets elevate the heavenly majesty even more.

This Psalm closes reinforcing the invitation to praise God. All Creation praises the One who created and rescued us and who is also coming to judge this earth with justice.

“Those who have the gift of song are needed. Song is one of the most effective means of impressing spiritual truth upon the heart. Often by the words of sacred song the springs of penitence and faith have been unsealed” (Welfare ministry, p. 93).
