Reading through the Bible together
This is my favorite Psalm. This Psalm is all about God as my personal, intensely intimate Father and Friend. Firstly, He knows me – on the outside and on the inside. He knows when I get up and what I do during the day. He even knows what I am thinking and the words I will say. God’s perfect knowledge is very comforting to me.
Secondly, God is everywhere (v.7). I cannot hide from Him, or avoid Him like Adam and Eve (Gen 3:8) or Jonah (Jonah 1:3) tried to do. Why would I want to, when I have the assurance of His protection (v.10) and His light (v.12) to brighten my darkest days.
Thirdly, He is my Creator. He created the whole universe and everything in it, but He also purposefully and intentionally designed human beings with every detail: our eye, skin and hair color, our unique features. We are one of a kind and He has a plan for each of our lives (v.16) – that’s amazing! And that’s the response that the reading of this Psalm brings to my heart.
I am awe-struck by the wonderful God I serve. He is a God who is not far-off, distant and too busy with running the universe to intentionally know me intimately. And my prayer is that of the Psalmist that God would continuously search for me, search my heart and lead me on the way that leads to heaven. May this also be your prayer today.
