As pilgrims traveled to Jerusalem, one of their songs was a “remembering song” --- their song of remembrance of God’s deliverance of His people.

Imagine the joy and wonder that God’s people felt when Cyrus decreed the return of the Jewish exiles back to their home in Jerusalem (see Ezra 1).  As they journeyed home to Jerusalem, what words of praise were on their lips? We know one thing for certain.  God was glorified.

Psalm 126:2b tells us that this act of deliverance of God’s people back to the promised land (their 2nd time to be delivered to this land) was one that caught the attention of the surrounding nations, even the unbelieving ones gave God the credit saying that “the Lord has done great things for them.”

I take great comfort in this passage because of the seasons of my life that don’t seem to make sense—the seasons where I see no signs of harvest for the planting I devoted my time and energies to.  It’s verses like these that keep me going and give me hope.  This is God’s way of reminding me “You will return to the place of my abundance with praise on your lips; with a blessing in your hand.  And My Name will be glorified forever.”
