Even among God-fearing people, there are those who stand out as great examples of faith.  Such was Hananiah, one of the two people that Nehemiah gave the charge of Jerusalem. Of him, it is said that, “he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.”  God finds it a blessing to many to give leadership functions to those who honor Him and live an exemplary life of faith.

Nehemiah acknowledges in verse five that “My God put it into my heart.” After he completed building the walls of Jerusalem and the doors were hung, the city needed to be populated for few people were living inside Jerusalem.  God continued to give wisdom to Nehemiah as to what to do in order to provide the needed service and security at the temple of God and the care of Jerusalem.

The wisdom that Nehemiah needed to do that came from God and Nehemiah did not fail to recognize this.  All good things come from God the source of wisdom and life and those who worship Him will always recognize that all good things, including wise thoughts, come from God.  True humility attributes all success and wisdom to God.

“Heavenly Father, enable us to live for You and to live with humility.”
