“Our God will fight for us,” was Nehemiah’s conviction amidst attacks from the enemies.  And this same belief is what will keep God’s people in times of trouble.

The more God’s people put effort into doing God’s will, the more the enemy doubled his efforts to frustrate their work.  Satan does not attack those who do nothing that disturbs the kingdom of darkness, but to those who do God’s will.

One would think that because Nehemiah prayed to God and relied on God, he himself and the people would not have to do anything about the situation.  That was not the case.  Instead Nehemiah posted people at every place with people holding spears on one hand and building with the other hand.  It is important to learn that God expects his people to do whatever they can on their part as they fully look and rely on Him for protection.  It is by so doing that God fought for them and overcame their enemies.

Words of encouragement from leaders are powerful in times of trouble.  Nehemiah encouraged the people with these words, “Do not be afraid of them, remember the Lord….”

“Father, give us strength to do our part, even as we look to You.”
