Reading through the Bible together
It is important that at the end of the work on the walls of Jerusalem, God is given the credit for the work that was done. When they began the building of the walls, Nehemiah told people that “The God of heaven will give us success” (Nehemiah 2:20).
On the celebration day, Scripture says, “And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy” (Nehemiah 12:43). Just as they began with depending on God for help, they celebrate with an acknowledgement of God as the One who had given them great joy. In God’s work, it is not that we do this part and God does that part. All that we do from beginning to the end is done in His power, by His power and for His glory. We are His servants and even after we have done His biddings, all glory must go to Him.
The role of good spiritual music is always a blessing when God’s people meet to worship or celebrate the acts of God. God’s people sang music with “instruments prescribed by David the man of God” (verse 36.) Miriam led God’s people into singing when God delivered them from Egypt (Exodus 15:20,21). Good music is good for the heart.
“Father, unto Thee we give all the glory.”
