What God promises, He fulfills. All He seeks from us is our cooperation. As Joshua continued his conquest of Canaan, the city kings to the North gathered together to attack the Israelites. “But the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow about this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel.’” Joshua obeyed, moved forward in faith and obedience. He knew that whatever God commands, God would make a way for His people to perform.

The Israelites were not to put their trust in chariots or horses but in the Lord, which they did. The Lord gave Joshua success and the chapter ends by saying, “So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord had said to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. Then the land rested from war.” This meant that there was no more unified resistance by the kings and the land could be divided according to tribes. However, each tribe was expected to subdue the Canaanites in their area.

In so many cases it seems that our enemies, whether they be spiritual, educational, social, physical, or occupational problems, are too many to count and too strong for us to conquer. But we need to remember that God can help us as He helped Joshua and personally obligates Himself to help us overcome the obstacles before us in our individual lives and give us His victory!
