The Bible

Bible Blog

Personally, this chapter holds great significance for me. God used 14:1 to reveal Jesus to me, and 14:27 to confirm His call to me to go into the ministry.  I was an Atheist for about 5 years, and then began believing in a Higher Power.”  So I enrolled in Southern Adventist University, and one of the classes I decided to take was Christian Doctrines.  I was interested to learn more about the Christian religion, since I already knew other world religions. The first subject in class was the importance of God’s Word.  The second lesson was about God the Father.  The third lesson focused on God the Son. I had no problem with the first two lessons but the third one really bothered me!  Why so much emphasis on Jesus?

“WHO is this Jesus? And WHAT am I to do?” One day I took a walk in the woods, stopped at the biggest tree, and called out these two questions to GOD over and over again. Then I heard a voice, “Get your Bible. I want to tell you something.” I took my Bible, prayed, with my eyes still closed I opened it with my finger on John 14:1.  It answered BOTH of my questions! “You believe in God, believe also in Me.” That’s WHO Jesus is and WHAT am to do?  It was at that moment that I received Jesus into my heart and put my faith in Him as my GOD and Savior.

John 14:27 also is a favorite verse. I was always looking for peace in my life but could never find it.  As GOD was calling me into pastoral ministry, late one night I told Him every fear I had of answering that call.  Again, He spoke to me, “Open your Bible so I can tell you something.”  I prayed, with my eyes still closed my finger pointe to John14:27.  I said, “Yes, I know, it’s about peace.” GOD said, “Read the whole verse.”  I read it, and God said to me, “Chris, you’ve got My peace (the indwelling Spirit of Jesus), now don’t be afraid.” I said “YES!”  A few years later, the Professor and Dean who taught me about Jesus, ordained me to the Gospel Ministry.

In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Jesus is GOD’s instruction to humanity: of His love, His way, His truth and life.  By the Holy Spirit, may we learn to follow God’s instruction by daily saying, Yes, to following Jesus!
