After 7 years of Israelite disobedience and Midianite oppression, the Lord chose Gideon as His mighty warrior.  The Angel of the Lord had just consumed with fire Gideon’s cooked lamb and unleavened bread, assuring Gideon of victory over the Midianites.  But before deliverance comes obedience.  That same night, the Lord’s first commands required immediate obedience:  1) destroy his father’s Baal altar; and 2) build an altar to the Lord.

It is imperative for our spiritual health that poisonous habits and relationships be eliminated, not just reduced or negotiated with God, but destroyed.  What are the idols that I have been worshiping that God is calling me to destroy?  After the idols in our lives have been destroyed, it is equally imperative that we establish new patterns of worship.  What areas of my life does God want me to surrender to Him?   What actions can I take to build a new altar to God in my life?
