God is looking for men and women of faith

In chapter 4, the King of Persia commanded God’s people to stop rebuilding the Temple of God.  In this chapter, Haggai and Zechariah, God’s prophets urged God’s people to go forward with the building project, asking them to trust God.  Zerubabbel and Jeshua were encouraged and mobilized people and they rose and continued the building of the Temple in spite of the letter from the King.  “But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, so that they could not make them cease until a full report could go to Darius” who had now come to the throne (verse 5).

God’s eyes are always upon those who do His will, but He needs men and women who are informed and are able to present their case to those in authority with facts.  When Tattenai the local governor of Persia wrote a letter to Zerubbabel, challenging him to stop the work, God’s people wrote a response in which they presented additional information and demanded that an investigation be conducted into the history of the matter.  God’s people should not be satisfied with just knowing a little.  God wants us to be heads and not tails even in knowledge.

“God, grow our faith daily so that in spite of opposition, we will trust You by going forward.”
