Josiah was only eight years old when he became king.  He was still a child and probably needed help from people around him, including his mother.

It was no accident that the book of the law was found, and Josiah was determined to ask the Lord for guidance and strength.

Paul says, the law of God is to show that we are sinners (Romans 3:20), and this was exactly what happened to Josiah.  He tore his robes because he knew his people had sinned against God.

What do you do with the law when you are found to be guilty?  Follow Josiah’s example, “Go and inquire of the Lord” (verse 13).  God gave him a clear answer.  Because Josiah humbled himself before the Lord, God heard him and promised that he would not see the coming calamity but “be buried in peace”.

Law should not be our enemy unless we want to continue to in sin.  In this world of lawlessness and sin, do you have courage to uphold the law when everyone around you is falling behind?  Take courage!  God is gracious and He is standing beside you to fight this battle, and victory belongs to Him!
