How do you solve problems?  By your own means or by depending on others, or asking God for help?  Ahaz obviously did not ask God for help, when he faced invasion from King of Syria and Israel, his aid came from king of Assyria.  What was the price he had to pay?  “The silver and gold found in the Temple of the Lord and in the treasuries of the royal palace” (verse 8). This silver and gold did not belong to him but to God, yet Ahaz was not afraid to use it, did he have no fear for God?

Ahaz’s alienation from God is further illustrated when he built an altar like the one used by Tiglath-Pileser, the Assyrian king.  Why did he build such altar when there is already an altar in the Temple of God?  He probably wanted to gain the same victory like the Assyrian king, but building a counterfeit altar certainly did not bring him any victories.

Our alienation from God often comes with small steps, and Satan is the master deceiver to lure us away from God.  Even a small step here and there and continued will result in total alienation from God.  The only way to stand firm is to stay under the protection of God and keep a close relationship with Him.
