The building of the temple is finished.  Now it’s time to bring in the most sacred of Israel’s treasures—the ark of the covenant.

Carefully they carry it pass the altar of sacrifice through the Holy Place and into the Most Holy.  Everything is made according to the pattern of Heaven.  Golden angels hang over the place for the ark.  They’re a symbol of the countless angels in heaven who love to be in the presence of their God.

Now the ark is set down, perfectly centered in the middle of a perfect square.  The ark is the symbol of where God sits on His throne of universal rule.  That rule is based on the perfect love and justice summarized in the Ten Commandments.  And that’s why the one and only special thing in the ark of His covenant is the Ten Commandments.

As the priests come out, the air is filled with incredible singing and praising.  All we have recorded of the beautiful songs is summarized in verse 13, “For He is good, for His mercy endures forever.”  That one simple phrase summarizes the truth we desperately need.  In the presence of a perfect God with a perfect law, we need His perfect mercy.

Our holy God is full of forgiveness and we can join the angels in continual praise of Him who loves us.
