Reading through the Bible together
Solomon needed 80,000 people to carve out stones, another 70,000 to carry everything, and 3,600 just to oversee all the workers. He needed craftsmen skilled in using gold, silver, bronze, iron, and gorgeous purple and crimson cloth. What was behind all this ambitious work? It was Solomon’s determination to build “a temple for the name of the Lord” (verse 1 and 4).
Today another temple is being built, way more glorious than Solomon’s. “You also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:22). How could we sinners ever be more beautiful than gold-covered masonry? Only by God’s grace turning us into a temple of “living stones” where He Himself lives (1 Peter 2:5-6).
God needs thousands of laborers for His project. There are still over 7,000 unreached people groups in the world that haven’t heard the gospel in their own language. Are you a stone carver, searching through this world’s quarry for the lost? Are you a burden bearer, caring for weary, fellow laborers? Are you an administrator or pastor helping put God’s servants to work? Whatever your skill, bring it to this hugely important and ambitious task. Jesus is coming soon, but He waits for the completion of His temple. Watch today for what you can do for you.
