The Philistines had captured the Ark of God and said, “our gods are the greatest.”  God would have preferred to give His witness through His people Israel, but their unbelief led them to failure.  So God Himself witnessed to the Philistines based on the knowledge they had.  From Ashdod to Gath, to Ekron the ark was taken. All experienced the superior power of Israel’s God.  The Philistines often spoke of “the gods” that smote the Egyptians with plagues, and now they were experiencing plagues.  In their desperation they decided they must return the ark to its own place which they did.

In the counsel the Lord has given to us are these words. “God speaks to us by blessing bestowed. When these are not heeded He speaks to us by blessing removed.”  The increasing troubles in the world indicate blessing removed.  Today is the day to take hold of the Lord’s strength and to draw closer to the Lord in faith and obedience.
