The biblical account tells us that David reigned over all Israel, doing with a fair and righteous hand. How happy are the people whose leaders govern with justice, not oppressing the poor or favoring the powerful.

Because of David's faithfulness, God granted him victory after victory against his enemies. He defeated the Edomites, Moabites, Ammonites, Philistines and the Amalekites. The silver and gold taken from these nations were dedicated to the Lord. In all his victories great and small, David humbly acknowledged that these victories had been made possible only through God’s guidance and protecting hand over himself and his soldiers.

A prosperous and just kingdom is not built overnight. It took time for David to accomplish all these victories. The senior government officials were important for the political and spiritual prosperity of the nation. With their help, David expanded his kingdom all the way to edges of the Euphrates river (1 Chronicles 18:3). The names of his officials were recorded as a permanent tribute for the deeds towards the people of God.

The construction of a noble character also takes time. The Holy Spirit uses people and circumstances to help us overcome our character flaws. Thank those who have been a positive influence in your life. Give them a place of honor in your memories and in your prayers.

Dear Father, thank You for the men and women who have encouraged me to grow in the direction of Your dreams for me.
