Reading through the Bible together
A kingdom is not built overnight. It took several years for David to assemble a band of loyal warriors, willing to be at his side through any difficulty. While he was in Philistine lands, escaping for his life, many defected Saul and came to his side.
David considered each man that came to him as a gift from God. He had them in such high esteem that he preserved a list of those who joined him while he was at Ziklag.
Among the qualities that inspired new soldiers to follow David, was his uncompromising character. He was loyal to king Saul, even when persecuted by him. He treated his soldiers with respect, telling them the truth and affirming their value.
God blessed David giving him loyal warriors willing to risk their lives in order to protect him and establish him as king. Amasai, chief of the Thirty most honored of David’s soldiers, led by the Spirit of God, said: “We are yours, David! We are with you, son of Jesse! Success, success to you, and success to those who help you, for your God will help you” (1 Chronicles 12:18, NIV). What an encouragement, David found in these words!
Think for a moment about the people that have helped you in decisive moments of your life. They were sent by God to strengthen you. Have them in high esteem. If possible, write them a word of gratitude.
Decide yourself to be faithful to leaders that champion noble causes. Supporting them you are fostering God’s kingdom.
